Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

Design – Project Management – Installation

This drainage system rehabilitation project was performed at night within the confined space of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. The goal was to remove and replace the existing drainpipe within the tunnel. AFPS facilitated the removal of 4.7 miles of 8″ debris-filled PVC drainage piping and replaced it with 10″ cast iron drain pipe with new tie-ins at all roadway drain scuppers. Over 734,000 pounds of new material was placed, utilizing 30″ man holes as the only means of access. AFPS shared $299,000.00 in value engineering savings. The project was completed under budget and 60 days ahead of schedule. This project received the 2012 First Place Maryland Quality Initiative Award for projects under $5,000,000.00.
