Fire Alarm Systems

Inspection & Testing – Service & Repair – Sales – Monitoring – Design & Installation

FIRST ALERT OF FIRE

Fire alarm systems often provide the first notification of fire in a building. They can be as simple as a stand-alone smoke detector. Or they can be as complex as thousands of networked sensors, relays, activations, and notification devices. The systems can sound alarms, initiate smoke evacuation, stairwell pressurization, elevator recall and shunt trip, HVAC shunts, fire door activation, and even human voice instructions.

REGULARLY MONITORED

Fire alarm systems send signals regularly to monitoring facilities that react immediately to emergency situations, dispatching first responders. They also monitor for system trouble and supervisory signals, alerting the owner of possible problems with the system.

PROPRIETARY VS. NON-PROPRIETARY SYSTEMS

Some systems are “proprietary,” meaning the manufacturer tightly controls their distribution. Only a limited number of dealers are authorized to install, program, and maintain their systems. Building owners who purchase a proprietary system are then “captured” customers until they replace the system.

Unless specified otherwise, AFPS only installs non-proprietary systems. If at any time the customer decides they want someone else to service the property, they are free to choose any company.
